Boxing Day Dip makes a big splash at Deal

Swimmers at Deal for the Boxing Day Dip

Plunging in to freezing cold waters is not everyone’s idea of a perfect Christmas, but for some the Boxing Day Dip has become somewhat of a tradition.

The annual dip at Deal, which has been running for an astonishing 30 years, attracted its biggest crowd yet with hundreds of participants taking the plunge this Christmas.

Organiser Margaret Edwards said: “We had the biggest crowd ever for our 30th anniversary Boxing Day Dip and I am hoping to break all the records from sponsorship."
The sponsored splash saw crazy dippers donning some of the wackiest get-ups including various species of animals, as well as pirates and Smurfs.
Sarah Little took part in the dip and said: “Me and my friends dressed up as Disney characters… it was freezing cold but it all goes towards a worthy cause.
It is yet to be verified how much was raised.
